Founded by husband-wife team Jeremy and Carrie Simmons, Travel With Kids TV & Tours is a television production and tour company focusing on family adventure travel with a mission to expand perception of the possibilities of family travel. “As parents, we understand that family vacation is a time to truly engage with your kids…away from the hectic schedules and distractions of home. We see family travel as an ideal path to global education with the opportunity for family bonding to the max,” says Carrie Simmons, host of the television series and head of communications for the company. Travel With Kids offers an array of family travel media content (television, online streaming content, apps, travel and activity books, DVDs) as well as family travel information and family adventure travel and tour booking with escorted family group tours. “Our goal is to expand the travel options for families, to facilitate global acceptance through knowledge of cultures around the world and to get families out there and travelling,” says Jeremy Simmons, host and head of production. “We want to bring our experience of real travel adventures to other families even though it may be out of their comfort zone at first.”
“Our first step into family travel was through our television series,” says Carrie, “but our love of travel was planted earlier than that in our own childhood and bloomed when we left our first jobs after college to backpack around the world.” Jeremy adds, “We bought a one-way ticket to China with no plans on how to get home. We just kept heading west for eight months until we made it to Mexico! Asia, India, Russia, Europe, Middle East, Africa and South America on an overland journey. Our friends thought we were crazy. Travel With Kids came after Nathan was born. Our friends said, ‘Now you can’t travel anymore,’ and I thought ‘why not?’ I want him to experience all the things we just did.” Carrie chimes in, “We took 10-month-old Nathan to Spain, Morocco and Ireland…and loved it. When we got back, we got a ton of questions about how we did it. And so an idea was born to make a DVD, which turned into a full TV series airing on public television and more media.”
Travel With Kids Television Series
Started in 2003, Travel With Kids is an award-winning television series broadcast in 150 cities in the U.S. and 30 countries worldwide and distributed on digital platforms like Hulu, iTunes, Amazon, Roku and more. Each episode focuses on the history, culture and nature of a destination told through the lens of the on-camera host family. Destinations featured in the show span 50+ countries on six continents. Parents appreciate practical family travel tips from parents Jeremy and Carrie while kids enjoy the adventure and antics of real-life kid brothers, Nathan and Seamus. The show is in its 8th season of production with over 80 episodes.
Nate & Shea’s Adventures Children’s Book Series
To complement the television series, Travel With Kids recently launched a children’s book series, Nate & Shea’s Adventures, which chronicles the travels of on-camera hosts Nathan and Seamus. Each book paints a picture of the destination, outlining history and cultural customs as well as geography and wildlife and is packed with interactive activities like language lessons, local recipes and craft ideas. Current titles include South Africa, Thailand, Italy, Ireland, Hawaii and more. Elements of the book correspond with the TV episodes of the same destination.
TWK Family Adventure Travel & Tours
In 2013, Travel With Kids launched the travel & tours division, TWK Family Adventure Travel & Tours, offering family adventures around the world based on experiences gained during the filming of the show. “So many people who watched the show asked about coming along with us, and we thought, why not?” says Jeremy. “Destinations thus far have focused on international itineraries we have discovered in the show. We have taken families to Belize, South Africa, Peru, Thailand and Ireland with many more destinations on the horizon including trips this year to Costa Rica, Mexico’s Mayan Riviera, South Africa – one of our favourite places, the Galapagos, Fiji and more.” The family vacation offerings include family group tours escorted by Travel With Kids hosts and customised private family trips. “We try to plan itineraries that follow the priorities of the show, so each trip offers various ways to interact with the destination… interactive history, plenty of real cultural encounters and immersion in nature, volunteer opportunities…and of course lots of adventure. Our goal is to get families to leave the resort and have real meaningful travel experiences. Plus, participants get lots and lots of pre-trip advice like preparation checklists, packing lists, recommended viewing and reading and much more.”
