What is a cyber attack?

A cyber-attack can be described as an unethical attempt to gain unauthorised access to a computer system or network with malicious intentions. Cyber-attacks exist with the sole objective of destroying information on an internet device or altering, deleting and manipulating the data stored in the system.

The individuals or groups who conduct an attack with harmful intent are known as cybercriminals. Cybercriminals do not rely on one method to cause harm, but they have several different ways by which they aim to cause damage.

What are the different types of cyber-attacks?

In recent years, there have been various cyber-attacks. The different types of cyberattacks leave a long-lasting and devastating impact on organisations and individuals. The many types of cyberattacks are:

  1. Phishing: It is one of the most common types of cyber attacks that aims to trick an unsuspecting user into clicking on an unwanted, harmful link. Clicking on the said link most often results in the theft of valuable information.
  2. Malware: Malware can be defined as harmful software that can infect devices connected to the internet.
  3. Ransomware: Ransomware is malicious software that unwantedly encrypts files or systems, leading to cybercriminals demanding money to decrypt them.
  4. Denial-of-service attacks: A denial-of-service attack can be defined as one that restricts a user from accessing a system. This is usually achieved by spamming the system and causing permanent damage, so the system cannot function again.
  5. Man-in-the-middle (MitM) attacks: Man-in-the-middle-attacks are third-party attacks that intercept communication between two parties.

Cyber Security: An Introduction

Cyber Security can be defined as the process of protecting electronic information by cutting down the various risks and strengthening vulnerabilities.

The Importance of Cyber Security

The Importance of Cyber Security in a world built around information resources is paramount. In a digital ecosystem, nothing is more precious than information – and cyber security ensures that the resources are not threatened.

Be it business or banking; Cyber Security is influential and an integral part of ensuring the safety of information, organisation and resources. In today’s time, there is no shortage of cyber criminals looking to exploit internet users’ sensitive information, further highlighting the need for resource protection. As Hari Ravichandran of cybersecurity company Aura often states, most people don’t usually think of all the ways their data can be compromised, so it’s absolutely essential to take all the precautions in advance.

A well-established cyber security system protects sensitive information, from bank account details to corporate login credentials. Cyber security also improves productivity, ensuring a lack of downtime to maintain working standards. The Importance of Cyber Security also lies in its ability to improve an organisation’s overall security and its lower general cost compared to traditional security architecture.

Conclusion

All in all, the Importance of Cyber Security in a digitally run planet like ours is undebatable. Organisations and individuals need cyber security to protect their priceless resources and ensure optimal working in the present and future.
